director Ruth Beckermann. From summer 1999 until spring
2000, Ruth Beckermann explored her immediate neighborhood

the people, debating and gesticulating, machinating and
speculating, or just simply passing by. Homemad(e) shows
how political issues are reflected upon in the coffee

cities from the periphery entails more than just telling
stories from suburbia. It is also a reflection of a
specific view of life driven by wide ranging and complex
situations. The tension between the periphery and center
in Berlin is the result of many historical, political and
geographical circumstances. For author Kathrin Röggla,
this tension becomes a linguistic vehicle, a kind of
grammar, to expose the tremendous changes in mentality and
social life that Berlin has undergone over the last
decade. info: Embassy of Austria at t 202.895.6700 or eleonora.windisch@bmaa.gv.at

into Zion's garden and Adlersaal. As previously,
shoppers will be able to feast on authentic German foods
and stock their pantries with imported holiday goodies
including Stollen and Lebkuchen. Local craftspeople
display their handmade snowflakes, Santas and elves,
floral arrangements along with commercial importers of
smokers and steins. There are also contemporary crafts
from developing nations and local artisans. A model
train garden is also being planned. The holiday spirit
is initiated with a Christmas tree and German music.
People can begin their holiday shopping, relax with a
glass of Glühwein and conversation with a friend in a
festive setting. Door prizes are awarded and guided
tours of Zion Church are available.

All or nothing. Paula is rigorous when
it comes to her feelings. She has already chased away two
men. Now she lives alone with her two children. She toys
with the idea of a sensible marriage with a more mature
admirer. Then she meets Paul and the sparks fly. One
of the most beautiful love stories of the 70s. The film
takes place in the Prenzlauer Berg district in Berlin and
provides an insight into everyday life in East Germany.
The music by the famous rock band Puhdys wasn't the only
reason the film soon became a cult classic.

March
14: Anton Webern Quartet :Thomas Fheodorof,
violin; Florian Bartussek, violin; Magdalena Teufel, viola; and
Dorothea Guschlbauer, cello— this renowned Viennese quartet
will play works of Zeisl, Webern, and Haydn. Their respect and
great enthusiasm for the chamber music masterpieces led them to
form the “Anton Webern Quartett Wien.” Having all worked
with Nikolaus Harnoncourt, the four musicians blend together to
form a new and refreshing unity of style. The quartet relishes
the challenge of comparing the First and Second Viennese
Schools, taking a fresh look at the classical quartets of Haydn,
Mozart, and Beethoven, while at the same time exploring the
important works of the last century by composers as Webern, Schönberg,
and Zemlinsky. This is a rare opportunity to hear such superb
musicians. Embassy of Austria, 3524

Flute. Next season, she will appear as Countess in Mozart’s
Marriage of Figaro, as Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, and as

Festival, she will appear in Handel’s Radamisto under Martin
Haselboeck, and at the Klangbogen Vienna 2002 in Massenet’s
Don Quichotte. Violinist Peter Sirotin will join the two artists
with, audience favorite George Peachey at the piano. A rousing
