Yonkers company to build 340 PATH cars
YONKERS, N.Y. (AP) The Port Authority of New York and New
Jersey has awarded a 499 (M) million dollar contract for new
PATH subway cars to the Kawasaki Rail Car company in Yonkers.
Governor George Pataki says the 340 new cars will eventually
replace the entire PATH fleet. They should be going into service
between 2008 and 2011. The new train cars will have improved
lighting, heating and air conditioning, room under the seats for
passengers' bags and three sets of doors on each side for fast
entry and exit.
