Gotham
Turnstiles: A Visual Depiction of Rapid Transit in the New
York Metropolitan Area from 1958-1968 by
John Henderson; H & M Productions; (May 1992) ISBN:
0962903787 Although only about one third of the book
concerns the Hudson Tubes, it is still highly recommended.
The author's excellent photographic work shows the old and
new Tubes, at the switchover from H&M to PATH. In
addition the book treats, among other things, the Jersey
Citty PRR Terminal, New York's Myrtle Avenue El, the [Bronx]
Third Avenue El, Dyre Avenue line, etc.

Rails
Under the Mighty Hudson : The Story of the Hudson Tubes, the
Pennsy Tunnels, and Manhatten Transfer (Hudson
Valley Heritage Series, 2) by Brian J. Cudahy 2nd edition
(June 2002) From Book News, Inc. The author
has updated his 1975 book (Stephen Greene Press,
Brattleboro, Vermont), recounting both engineering and
socio-political events connected with the building of
railways under the Hudson River. About one third of the book
concerns the Hudson Tubes.

Hudson
& Manhattan Railroad Revisited by Paul Carleton
[op] ISBN: 1112660224 Publisher: D Carleton Railbooks. There
are large sections of citations from sources contemporary
with the construction of the Tubes; most of the book is
centered on the late H&M - early Port Authority period
and contains a wide selection of good photographs made by
the author in the 1970s and, especially, in the 1980s. The
Newark service history is particularly extensive. If one were allowed
to have only one book on the Tubes, this would be it. The book
is now out of print but can be obtained used by clicking the
link above.
